Musuem of Art and Archaeology of the Coa Valley

Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Portugal

Function:

The Côa Museum is a project by architects Camilo Rebelo and Tiago Pimentel, with the collaboration of G.O.P in the projects of specialties, winner of a competition among 41 other national and foreign proposals. The project of the two architects is based on a huge concrete monolith with a texture similar to that of the local shale, semi-buried at the top of a hill, whose principle is integration into the landscape.

The building consists of four floors, roof / Floor 2, Floor 1, Floor 0 and Floor-1, organized by a particular system of vertical and horizontal circulations. The coverage gathers pedestrian circuits to access the museum and lanes for parking vehicles. It also incorporates panoramic areas, two elevators and a staircase that create a direct connection to the museum’s entrance hall.
