Oleiros, Portugal
Formerly a natural rock platform, the Zebro viewpoint has been refurbished and a circular platform 15 metres in diameter has been built “suspended” from the rocky slope of the quartzite crag.
Given the conditions of accessibility to the site, via a path from the national road of approximately 130 metres, the decision was made to build a concrete structure in situ. The solid reinforced concrete structure rests on the central monolith.
The platform consists of a solid reinforced concrete slab with a variable thickness from 20cm from the end to 60cm near the central support.
The centre support consists of a hollow reinforced concrete section lightened on the inside with EPS blocks. Its size was determined in order to achieve sufficient rigidity/resistance to the torsional forces introduced by the platform.
The centre support is “embedded” in the rock mass, anchored to the rock by a set of 17 micropiles that work in traction and compression.
